ABOUT LEAN IN
Following the success of the book Lean In (Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead), its author and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg co-founded a global movement which mobilises women worldwide into togetherness on the path to making their ambitions come true.
Since 2013 Lean In circles (e.g. small groups of women meet on a regular basis) have resulted in more than 2 million women inspiring and supporting each another.
In cooperation with McKinsey, Lean In carries out an extensive survey each year called ‘Women in the Workplace' which addresses unsatisfactory diversity and inclusion practices. Besides the 50 Ways to Fight Bias workshop, there is a wealth of other activities. Lean In is just one of the initiatives from the Sheryl Sandberg & Dave Goldberg Family Foundation. In Slovakia, the movement officially began to operate under the Lean In Slovakia Network since 2019.

OUR VISION
The world is in need of more female leaders. Women should be proportionally represented wherever crucial decisions which impact on the whole of society are made. Our desire is for workplaces where decisions are not made based on subconscious biases. We wish anyone in Slovakia could achieve their maximum potential – regardless of gender.

At Circle Kick-Off meetings, we introduce the concept of the ‘circles’. The participants learn what LEAN IN is all about, how they can start their own circle or join an existing one, demonstrated right on the spot.

The commitment to create a working environment where everyone feels accepted and has access to the same opportunities is important and reasonable. However, it is not an easy goal to achieve.
According to European statistics, our country ranks the 6th from the bottom within EU, when it comes to gender pay gap – women in Slovakia earn 20% less than their male counterparts. As for chief executive positions, women occupy a mere 6,9% and earn even 23% less than men. Moreover, they often face unconscious gender bias as well as unfair treatment.
